about rapbrary

Welcome to Rapbrary, where the rhythm of rap meets the power of the page.

Founded by rapper and librarian Roy Kinsey, Rapbrary is a one-of-a-kind library dedicated to preserving rap and hip-hop as culturally significant literary art forms. At Rapbrary, we believe that stories—whether spoken, written, or performed—are vital tools for education, empowerment, and change.

Rapbrary exists to:

📚 Preserve Cultural History: We celebrate the artistry and storytelling of rap and hip-hop as essential parts of the literary canon.

📖 Champion Marginalized Voices: Our collection uplifts books by underrepresented authors and serves as a sanctuary for banned and challenged books.

🎤 Foster Creativity: Through workshops, performances, and community programs, we create spaces where art, education, and activism intersect.

What We Offer:

Curated Collections: A library and bookstore with a focus on Black history, musicianship, banned books, and literature as art.

Community Programming: Book clubs, author interviews, live performances, and more that celebrate the intersection of rap and literature.

Education and Advocacy: Resources and events designed to fight censorship, promote literacy, and empower communities.

Why Rapbrary Matters:

At Rapbrary, we’re more than a library—we’re a movement. Our mission is rooted in the belief that words have the power to heal, inspire, and transform. By preserving and promoting diverse stories, we aim to create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Join the Movement

Whether you’re a lover of literature, a fan of hip-hop, or an advocate for social change, there’s a place for you at Rapbrary. Visit us, explore our collection, attend an event, or join us in the fight for equitable access to stories that matter.

Together, let’s amplify voices, celebrate culture, and make history—one story at a time.
